True. However it was only applied in June 2012, which is too late
to be included in Ubuntu 12.04.

If such a phrase does not convince you, then try the update yourself.

This issue is too minor for a stable release update. You can always
install the updated package manually.

Title:
delete button does not delete anything
Status in “aptitude” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Status in “cwidget” package in Debian:
Fix Released
Bug description:
I) problem 1
1) start aptitude in gnome-terminal
2) search package with pressing '/' button
3) input name of package to search
4) press enter to start search
5) search another package with pressing '/' button
6) you see the name of old searched package and keyboard cursor is in the beginning of input field
7) try to delete old search name with "delete" button. but it is impossible! it does not works!
8) press "end" button and delete with "backspace". it works but it is very annoying to press "end" every time.
II) problem 2
1) press Ctrl+Alt+F2, login as root and start aptitude in this real console.
2-8) as above with same result: "delete" button is not works in aptitude!
III) solutions for developers:
1) add support for "delete" button (for real console at least, but for both console and gnome-terminal is better)
2) let's move keyboard cursor to the end of inputed search name automatically
3) let's add menu option and keyboard combination to start new search empty input field
4) let's add menu option and keyboard combination to clean input field with one pressing non-delete and non-backspace key (really, why not?)
IV) additional information:
1) I tried every compatibility option in gnome-terminal for "delete" button. It can delete in aptitude only like "backspace", not like normal "delete".
2) I tried "delete" button in sh/bash shell in gnome-terminal and console (Ctrl+Alt+F2) too. It wokrs fine, but not in aptitude.
3) $ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release: 12.04
4) searching packages is very needed in aptitude pseudo-gui interface, because it is very hard to search and install packages with different versions in aptitude commandline mode (it is needed e.g. when you want to downgrade package from testing/unstable version back to stable. or maybe you know automatic solution for this and also for auto undo changes, which are made by `aptitude upgrade` command, or even you known solution for several undo of all operations with apt packages step by step? synaptic requires gui (Xorg e.g.), and in synaptic does not suggest several solutions when you try to downgrade some package with dependencies (which are needed to be downgraded too) and often fails downgrading.)
V) What I expected to happen:
Forward deletion by pressing standard "delete" button.
VI) What happened instead:
Backward deletion (standard backspace like, or even nothing) by pressing standard "delete" button.
VII) The version of the package I am using:
$ apt-cache policy aptitude
aptitude:
Установлен: 0.6.6-1ubuntu1.1
Кандидат: 0.6.6-1ubuntu1.1
