If you want to use the open source radeon driver instead of fglrx,
support for AMD's "Trinity" APU's was only introduced in the 3.4 kernel.
However then you might run into a bug which was fixed in the upstream
3.6-rc4 kernel thanks to this commit:

drm/radeon: fix dig encoder selection on DCE61
Was using the DCE41 code which was wrong. Fixes
blank displays on a number of Trinity systems.

As you can see, this was also cc'd to the stable kernel series, and was
included in the upstream kernel 3.4.12 as commit

Title:
a-10 4600m boots to black screen unless nomodeset option in grub with
kernel newer than 3.2
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I was very excited to try out the new beta but couldn't get it to boot
without the nomodeset option. This problem also comes up If I upgrade
the kernel to 3.4 or 3.5 in 12.4. I think it might be a problem with
some trinity chips. I have tried using the discrete gpu (7490)
disabled enabled I have no idea why lenovo chose to put a weaker
discrete chip than the integrated one.
