** Description changed:
12.04 LTS
I ran Update Manager on a train that provides free WIFI. The train
blocks certain pages. Something in Update Manager and Software Center
broke in the process.
Now there's a red warning icon in the upper left near the clock and
every time I run Update Manager or Software Centre it crashes. I get:
-=-=-
Could not initialize the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with
MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/iweb.dl.sourceforge.net_project_jedit_en,
E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

The text from the train's blocked interception pages has made its way
into files found in /var/lib/apt/lists/* Ie.
