Bug description:
amd64 12,10 all updated to 20121021 boots to solid purple screen.
Some flickering from hard drive when Ctrl-Alt-F1 pressed.
Removing "splash" from linux line boots as expected.

12,04 works fine. Booted to normal 1366x768 screen on QQ A1, A2, A3,
B1, B2 without this problem. First showed up on RC.
