I also am using 12.10 and I as well got the same mssg, however; my error gave me the file /usr/bin/lsb_release which is a .py (python) file.. line 26 when I used a debugger (IDLE) to run the module it did not err! and Line 26 was a user note:
'#This should really be included in apt-cache policy output... it is already' line 26
'#in the Release file...'

the release info only goes to 5.0 so I will back up the file and update it in python, hopefully it works!
If any one else has this problen looking @ the python code is very easy to understand.. and very easy to edit
just look for releases from 5.0 on and their 'Release_Code_Name' and add them as you see in the source code
if this isn't the problem..well I may need more advise..

** It don't make sense to me why the debugger don't catch the problem but the system does.. IDLE displays the correct
info when ran but the system barfs @ it :( **
