No, the grub-probe error is consequential.  The root cause here is that
es.archive.ubuntu.com is partially out of date: its amd64 Packages file
refers to grub-common 2.00-7ubuntu7 but its pool only has 2.00-7ubuntu6.
Not a GRUB bug - I'll see if I can chase this up with the mirrors folks.

  This is a daily image of quantal-server-i386.iso from
  http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily/current/quantal-
  server-i386.iso dated 10-Oct-2012 06:46 being installed in a
  virtualbox virtual machine.

  At the end of the installation grub-pc fails to install.

  In addition, when this bug was filed (with ubuntu-bug grub-pc on the
  affected machine),  an exception was raised by ubuntu-bug (OSError, no
  such file or directory, killall) so the attached data _may_ be
  incomplete
