[Bug 982443] Re: ldconfig reports /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.tar is not an ELF file - wrong magic bytes

It's not wrong, those tarballs aren't libraries. They also, however,
aren't shipped by any Ubuntu packages so, I assume you had some odd
third-party something or other that tarred up those libraries, perhaps
to back them up? Either way, not a bug for ldconfig to complain about
non-libraries in library directories.

Title:
ldconfig reports /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.tar is not an ELF file - wrong
  magic bytes

Status in “eglibc” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Command: sudo apt-get install ksysguard [from memory ...]

In installing ksysguard onto an Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit system the tail
end of the console output reported:

/sbin/ldconfig.real: /usr/lib32/libXdmcp.so.tar is not an ELF file -
it has the wrong magic bytes at the start.

The above line repeated for libXau.so.tar, and libxcb.so.tar

Being a 64-bit system, I have not so far seen any adverse effects for
  me.
