Sounds like a vmware problem, nothing to do in casper.

  VMware Workstation Express install 11.10

Status in “casper” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Express install works, gets to installing vmware tools, and vmware
  says the cdrom was ejected but locked, and asks for confirmation to
  remove the cdrom (click no or yes doesn't matter)

  After vmware tools finishs installing, the info on screen says it will
  go to the gui desktop login page, but instead it just goes to a shell
  login. After reboot it goes into gui just fine though.
