Bug description:
  Binary package hint: debian-installer

  I tried to install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 onto an old drive that has only 965632 bytes per cylinder and the system did not boot after the installation.
  When I tried to do "grub-install /dev/sda" (from Live CD), I got warning:
  Embedding area is too small for core.img

  I had to manually remove grub-pc and install grub for the machine to
  be able to boot from that disk.

  debian-installer must have logic to choose to use grub on disks with
  too small cylinders.
