Title:
[regression] suspend no longer works in 8.04

Status in “acpi-support” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
well, when i had 7.10, suspend worked. now, in 8.04, it doesnt. well,
at least most of the time

when it works, the screen fades to black, then i see a blinking cursor
and then the machine goes quiet and the screen no longer recieves a
signal. then, when i press the power button, you hear the fan and i
see the blinking cursor again for a little while (like 2 seconds) and
then the screen changes to however it was before i pressed the button,
or the password/screensaver screen. however, most of the time, when i
try to wake it up, the screen with the blinking cursor never leaves.
im just in some kind of terminal with a blinking cursor, and i cant do
anything. i have a wireless usb keyboard and mouse, and the little
usb-thumbdrive-sized reciever in the back does not light up when i
move the mouse or press a button. in fact, the usb ports dont even
seem to be powered. i tried plugging it in to different usb-ports, and
even the same one again, and it didnt light up.

this problem did not arise on the same computer with ubuntu 7.10 on
  it.

im using the i386 version of ubuntu for compatibility reasons, i have the intel q6600 quad-core processor.
i have the hp m9060n, look it up, i didnt change any of the hardware.

another thing, it would be nice not to see some kind of cursor or
terminal after the screen fades to black. once the screen fades, it
should stay black until you wake it up.

yet another thing: it would be nice if i can wake it up by pressing a
button on the keyboard. on my computer, i have to press the actual
power button on the computer to wake it up.
