Status in “vim” package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: vim

  Meanwhile syntax highlighting is enabled by default in vim. In order
  to conform to highlighting which is also offered by other editors and
  that most users would like to use this, please enable search
  highlighting by default as well.

  Enabling this saves the (standard) user from creating a .vimrc file
  with only the line: set hlsearch

  When this is enabled by default, users will identify more easily all
  search result.
