The logs attached are useless for debugging the issue you've
encountered, apparently due to a problem with /dev/pts on your system.
If you can manually attach the dpkg output associated with this failure,
we can try to debug it from there - possibly by running 'sudo dpkg
--configure -a' in a terminal.

we've had problems with upgrade to 12.04lts - upgrade finished with
too many errors. Then we restarted the upgrade process and it ran
until end. Now just tried to install package updates and the new
kernel image.
