/usr is a stand alone partition apart from / as it turns out so I shrunk
/ by 900mb and grew /usr by about that that much and gave /var the rest.
So, now /usr is 86% full but, apt-get install -f still says there is no
space left on /usr:

apt-get install -f

I just used root to create that subdirectory /usr/src/linux-
headers-3.2.0-24-generic-pae/include/config/x86/internode/cache but,
then apt-get install -f still gets:

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-headers-3.2.0-24-generic-pae_3.2.0-24.37_i386.deb (--unpack):

where df /usr now says:
df /usr

/dev/sda5 4938576 4021544 669556 86% /usr

  Whats the deal?
