Title:
  LVM1 volume clobbered during installation?

Status in “lilo-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I did a test kubuntu installation on a partition I created in spare space in my
lvm partition. The installer offered to install lilo on the master boot record
or in the LVM partition. I selected the lvm partition, and afterwards the lvm
  partition was unreachable.

Here's the layout of my hard disk

  root at shawn:~ # fdisk -l /dev/hda

  Disk /dev/hda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
  255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
  Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
  /dev/hda1 1 91 730926 82 Linux swap / Solaris
  /dev/hda2 * 92 456 2931862+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
  /dev/hda3 457 9729 74485372+ 5 Extended
  /dev/hda5 457 1185 5855661 83 Linux
  /dev/hda6 1186 1671 3903763+ 83 Linux
  /dev/hda7 1672 9729 64725853+ 8e Linux LVM

Lilo was installed in /dev/hda7. I assumed that since the installer offered the
option, it would be safe to do so. Now I know it wasn't and have to find a way
  to restore my volume group...
