experiencing bug 346386. This issue happens when you have tried to
update your package information when you are a network that didn't
return the right files. This issue can be cleaned up by using the
following commands in a terminal:
1.) sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
2.) sudo apt-get update

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Release 12.04
Could not initialize the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and
include the following error message:
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with
MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ca.archive.ubuntu
.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en, E:The
package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
software centre would not start either. (window would initially open,
but as loading would crash)
After typing "ubuntu-bug update-manager" into the "Run Application"
window, I received the message "Could not determine the package or
source package name"
