[Bug 999440] [NEW] Some retraces fail, but hang rather than exiting

Public bug reported:

We get some retraces that just hang, but don't exit - these seem to be
all (from what I've seen so far) from the 11.10 release. I've discussed
this with Evan a few weeks back, and am filing as a bug to see if
there's something that can be done within the retracer to manage this.
We can do it externally with a cron job to kill gdb processes older than
a certain age (what should be the threshold?) but it would be cleaner if
it can be done within the application.

** Affects: whoopsie-daisy (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
