Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect 545872 and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Title:
openssl cannot validate certs for certain sites when using https and
  ruby

Status in “openssl” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: openssl

When connecting to certain sites, this one:
  https://qualysapi.qualys.eu/msp/

When using ruby it fails with a validation error,
but when using openssl s_client or wget it works.

Changing ruby to use a homecooked version of openssl work's fine.

My first thought about this was that the specific site uses a wildcard certificate,
but I can connect other sites with wildcard certs without validation errors.

  my openssllib version: 0.9.8g-15ubuntu3.4
home cooked version of openssl that works:openssl-0.9.8m
