Title:
  Unablee to install any software

Status in “dpkg” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  When ever I try to install software using Ubuntu Software Center I get
  the following message

  OS: Ubuntu 10.04, 32 bit

  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/aptdaemon/worker.py", line 109, in _process_transaction
      elif not is_dpkg_journal_clean():
    File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/aptdaemon/worker.py", line 729, in is_dpkg_journal_clean
      for dentry in os.listdir(status_updates):
  OSError: [Errno 20] Not a directory: '/var/lib/dpkg/updates/'

  Even update manager is not working. When I launch it, a window saying
  starting update manager appears, the orange bar progress and it
  disappears.

  Computer Janitor is unable to clan old and unwanted packages. Looks
  like some thing is really screwed up.
