a reboot followed by a series of "sudo aptitude install -f" and "sudo
aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade && sudo aptitude
autoclean" + some orphans cleanup using synaptic seemed to have solved
the issue.

Is most certainely an "update hiccup", but disturbing for "noobs" like
me ;-)
