Any progress on this one? Upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04 beta2 does not seem
to solve the problem. In my case sending the udevadm trigger does not
seem do anything.

Title:
USB 3g modems dont switch to ttyUSB until udevadm trigger
Status in “udev” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
After completed install of xubuntu precise i386:
inserting any USB modem, none are recognised (I tried E220, E169 and
E160E)
in dmesg all you see is the fake CDROM device, indicating the usb
modeswitch isnt happening
eventually I tried `udevadm trigger` with the E220 plugged in, and it
switched to serial and I could connect to the Internet with it when
modemmanager eventually found it. From this point on any of the
modems are recognized as USB serial when you plugin them in.
After reboot, back to square one until the first time you do a udevadm trigger.
