Title:
  Kpartx interferes with automount behaviour

Status in “multipath-tools” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I tried plugging in an external USB drive for the first time after
installing kpartx and multipath-tools, expecting it to automount
through Gnome/Nautilus to /media/ . Only after removing kpartx did the
  automount behaviour return.

When the automount failed, it launched an error dialog reporting
device already mounted or mount point busy. Trying to mount /dev/sdb1
manually resulted in a similar error, although umount said /dev/sdb1
  wasn't mounted.

Looking into DMesg I could see messages like this...

[46092.602631] device-mapper: table: 252:2: multipath: error getting device
[46092.602641] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table

...which made me suspect kpartx was involved somehow.
