[Bug 964043] [NEW] Screen blanks then freezes during install

Public bug reported:

Release: Kubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin Beta 1
Hardware: Dell Inspiron 1564 laptop

Observed: During my first attempt at installation, the installer got to
the stage of "Downloading language packs...". Then the screen went
blank. Thinking this was a power-save feature kicking in, I nudged the
mouse, and after a few moments the installer screen did return. But from
then on, everything was frozen. Mouse and keyboard were unresponsive,
installer didn't move, and I had to hard-reset the computer and boot the
install CD again (had a blank screen instead of a bootloader).

Expected: Power save states should not freeze the installer, and perhaps
should be disabled entirely during install.

Reproducible: Did not attempt, sorry. My scientific curiosity just
wasn't enough to justify losing that time again. For what it's worth, I
nudged the mouse frequently during the second attempt to ward off power
save, and sure enough, there were no problems.

Log files: No. System was unusable after bug and any log files were thus
unrecoverable (except perhaps by means beyond my brainpower at the
time).

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
