Public bug reported:

After upgrading my system to kernel 3.2.0-19,
it displayed a purple screen after grub menu and hanged there.

---I booted (fine) with kernel 3.2.0-18 and waited for the next
upgrade.---

After upgrading to kernel 3.2.0-20 the system still gets into the "eternal purple screen".
By going to recovery mode I get a bunch of [<fffffffffffffffff88...> ,the blinking cursor and the system hangs.

my pc:
---------
cpu: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
vga: 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller, driver: i915
mobo: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
