[Bug 961649] [NEW] "update this installer" does not work in beta1 12.04 amd64

Public bug reported:

On the welcome screen of the installer I got the text "You may wish to update this installer." 
"update this installer" is rendered as a clickable link and when I click it the text is removed but nothing happens.

I would expect _something visible_ to the user.
