The footprint of Ubuntu is not up to the installer, and it is explicitly
out of scope for Ubiquity to perform any package selection.
** Package changed: ubiquity (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu)

Title:
Ubuntu installation footprint should be below 4GB (optionally)
Status in “ubuntu-meta” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
The footprint for Ubuntu installation has increased greatly. Ubiquity
should utilize the screen where it says
[HAS AT LEAST 4.5 GB available drive space]
to make that size changeable by removing optional packages making it
possible to install Ubuntu on smaller drives.
Some ideas of "optional" packages. Some are quite large and I find that not everyone uses these:
Libre Office
Thunderbird
Ubuntu-one
Gwibber
Empathy
Rhytmbox/Banshee
Gnome Games
Totem
Shotwell
