You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Affects: ubuntu precise-desktop.powerpc.iso AND lubuntu precise-desktop-
powerpc.iso both 20120315.
While trying to boot from live cd on PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz, 100 GB HD, 1
GB RAM, ATI graphics, the boot stops with:
Ubuntu 12.04 (or Lubuntu 12.04) text on screen
Stops with text error: b43-phy0 Error. Firmware file b43-opne/ucode5.fw not found
So its looking for the firmware for the Airport Wi-fi card, which is a
Broadcom-based card.
The error occurs with or without the laptop being connected to an active
network via a standard ethernet, wired connection.
Question: does the live CD require that you have an active network connection?
I would think it would recognize that the Broadcom firmware is missing, and then move on to the next boot step.
I have an iBook G4 with the same card and it didn't fail previously at
this step. I can't test it now though, as the hard drive failed
installing the 0314 iso's.
