Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

Title:
Installer crashed while installing Ubuntu 11.10 upgrade over Ubuntu
  11.10

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
2 different DVD's off 2 mags. Had ubuntu 11.10 installed (whole drive, single operating system) from Linux FORMAT mag. issue 155 and everything worked fine, wasn't particularly impressed with the initial startup screen, but.
I am a complete novice with Linux but liking it.
Picked up the Ubunto User mag (over my head though) but liked the initial startup screen on their version of Ubuntu 11.10 with the easy access panel for programs down the left side. with the rest accessalbe from the top button, so installed that fron scatch - same way, whole drive and single operating system. Great - but my printer (Epson sylus photo R300) wouldn't work. tried o download the cup drivers ( and any others that you FAQ recommended) but seemed to be no access for USB printer installation. Ok for Parellel and serial, network etc: USB stick etc recognised OK. So went back to original first installation from the LINUX FORMAT mag and the printer was picked up ok and I printed out a test sheet - all ok.
I then decided I could have the best of both worlds by upgrading version 11.10 of the LFormat to version 11.10 off the LUser mag.
Started ok - and thought good - but about 5mins in "Installer Failed".

  Problem ???
would like Linux User version BUT with printer!

  regards
Mike Buller (Computer literate, Linux newby)
