Title:
Network is disabled after a netboot live installation
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Binary package hint: ubiquity
When booting ubuntu LiveCD environment from a nfs share
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveCDNetboot), casper add a few lines in
/etc/network/interfaces which avoid network-manager taking down the
network device.
The problem is that after installing ubuntu on hard disk through
ubiquity, /etc/network/interfaces still contains these lines and
prevent Network-Manager to manage the device. Network-manager simply
report "unmanaged device" until you remove these lines and reboot the
computer.
This bug is somewhat related to bug #268005 which does not happen
anymore due to current casper workaround. If bug #268005 can be fixed
without using the current casper workaround, it would also fix this
bug. Otherwise, ubiquity seems to be the only place to fix this in the
mean time.
Steps to reproduce :
1. Follow steps to boot Live CD from nfs share (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveCDNetboot)
2. Install ubuntu to hard drive.
3. Boot ubuntu from hard drive.
Result : Network manager does not manage the network and won't manage
it until you know that the problem belong to /etc/network/interfaces
and that you remove casper configuration.
