Title:
  Installer should check the architecture of the existing OS for the
  reuse option

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubiquity was recently redesigned to include an "upgrade ubuntu" option
  (see bug #723849). I was wondering if this option would allow the user
  to move from 32-bit to 64-bit (eg.: 10.10 32-bit -> 11.04 64-bit). It
  would be extremely useful if you could just press a button to upgrade
  your system from 32 to 64-bit (provided you have a 64-bit processor
  and the appropriate CD).
