I haven't found the exact source of the bug yet though I can confirm
it's a KDE only bug.

There seems to be some missing layouts in the variantMap. I'll have
another look later/tomorrow and see if I can maybe get the logic of the
gtk version into the qt one.

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  * Booted 12.04 Beta 1, amd64 desktop from an USB-stick.
  * After selecting the timezone the keyboard layout should be choosen
  * I've been cycling through the keyboardlayouts and at "German - German (qwerty)"  the installer crashed
