I tested a daily server build of Ubuntu 12.04 beta today. This issue is
fixed :-)

Title:
  12.04 alpha: dns-nameservers in /etc/network/interfaces missing

Status in “netcfg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Installed 12.04 server with a *static* IP from precise-server-
  amd64.iso (12.04 alpha image from feb15)

When installing, the Static IP of the system and the IP address of the DNS server was requested, entered and installation worked just fine.
After installation the system rebooted fine and one could login via SSH (The only service activated was SSH during installation.)

However, dns resolution was not working.

The dns-nameservers line was missing from /etc/network/interfaces and
  thus /etc/resolv.conf

The dns-search was (correctly) there, containing the domain name added
  during installation.

  Notes:
  - this is a server, cli based install, x64 in a VM.
  - a DHCP based install work fine.
