Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Debian fixed the bug in version 8.9.9 and these changes
are included in the precise package as well.

So, it would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported
Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload
the updated logs by running apport-collect 870195 and any other logs
that are relevant for this particular issue.

Title:
build directory name incorrect when cross compiling

Status in “debhelper” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in “debhelper” package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
When using debuild to cross compile a package that is built with cmake
(e.g., debuild -aarmel), the build directory is named obj-i686-linux-
gnu, which is the same name that is used when doing a native debuild.

This has been fixed upstream: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
  bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=644553
