Please can you check the permissions on /var/lib/samba and /var/cache/samba; if they have both directories
have drwxrwxrwx permissions please try the following:

  sudo chmod 0755 /var/lib/samba /var/cache/samba
  sudo apt-get -f install

I think that this bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of
bug 791944, so it is being marked as such.

Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing
information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for
the bug.

Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in
the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may
find.

  I expected samba to install...  and then be able to connect to windows shares.  It didn't install, and when it was installed previously this morning would connect to any windows shares.

  From what I've been reading, this is a very pervasive problem...
