Title:
From the computer icon in the control bar, "Shut Down" fails

Status in “ubuntu-meta” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
From the menu list "Shut Down" worked well in Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS,
kernel 2.6.32-26-generic but after an upgrade to 10.10 it will not
work. The video screen shows the shutdown splash with two of the 4
dots colored in and stays that way forever. Also the terminal screen
will do the same thing if INIT 15 or "Shut Down" is executed. There
seems to be no way to complete power shutdown using software commands.
Hardware shut down still works fine, hold the power button in for 3
seconds and the machine will power down. This seems to be a kernel
bug from the Ubuntu-desktop. .......... Claude Caci
