Title:
Install (auto-resize) fails to boot after installation

Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Following this test case:
  http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/204/builds/13085/testcases/1171/results

The installation runs smoothly, but the machine will not boot when
restarted. Instead it shows the grey screen that is normal after
  power cycling the machine.

It is possible to boot to the newly made partition (or the old one) by
booting first to the installation CD and then choosing boot from first
hard drive. In this way the grub menu can be reached. Running
  update-grub has no effect.

Prior to adding the second (resized) partition, the machine booted
fine. So the normal installation process is able to install what is
needed to boot the machine, but something about the resize process
  fails.
