Title:
dash does not show ppa installed programs

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have installed emacs-snapshot-gtk, which is the program I use the most.
This program does not show up in dash, and I must constantly start it in terminal.
This used to work. This is a regression.

I also have libreoffice's ppa installed. This also does not show up in
dash. (This is known and there is a prior bug filed. I may even have
  filed it.)

I have accommodated this as best I can by adding both programs to the
startup menu and creating desktop launchers, but this is not a good
  long-term solution.

Also, when I open either ppa program, the menu bar does not allow me
to attach them as an icon.
