Agreed, that menu is not good.
You don't know what kernel you are booting, and if you press Enter to see that, it is not obvious if this keypress could change the kernel which is going to be booted.

Title:
please remove the "Previous Linux versions" sub-menu and display all
  kernels again

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The "Previous Linux versions" sub-menu is superflous on grub-pc, plus,
it's rather pointless, in a situation when GRUB2 automatically adopts
the BIOS' largest available resolution, which provides plenty of space
to display all available kernels within a single view. It would thus
be desirable to remove that sub-menu or to make its utilization
entirely optional and to disable it by default. OEM manufacturers that
pre-install Ubuntu on handheld devices with a limited screen footprint
could easily pre-seed debconf answers to enable it as needed, whereas
for average PC usage, the sub-menu is undesirable.
