Title:
Can't install Ubuntu on my new computer.
Status in “gparted” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
I have seen other posts on forums and on launchpad of people having
this problem but none of the proposed workarounds have helped me. I am
trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 - 64 bit on a new machine that has
windows 7 preloaded onto it. The machine has an intel i7 processor, 8
gbs of ram, a high end graphics card and 1 tb of hard disk space in a
two hard drive raid array to the best of my knowledge. I am a long
time Ubuntu user and have never had these problems.
Namely when I try to install Ubuntu I get to the Partitioning section
and the screen is blank showing no devices, no filesystems, no options
and when I try to click forward it spits out an error telling me "No
Filesystem is Defined".
Gparted shows no devces or filesystems whatsoever even when I refresh
devices. There's simply nothing there at all. I tried using an old
8.10 32 bit disc to see if the problem persisted and it did. I tried
workarounds involving selecting no dmraid and noacpi at startup, and
uninstalling dmraid packages from synaptic with a live session
running. None of it has affected the problem whatsoever. I have
checked both discs I tried for Defects and neither had any errors.
I really need help with this. I don't want to keep Windows, so a
solution that eliminates it is fine by me. I just need Linux running
on this machine asap. I am a digital artist, and I only want to use
Linux, preferably Ubuntu, I don't want to have to use Windows because
of a stupid bug. Please help, I can only wait so long as my livelihood
depends on me having access to gimp and blender which frankly don't
run that well in Windows. Sorry to be wordy but I really need help
with this, no possible solutions have worked for me, this problem
seems to have persisted for a long time and I need to get this machine
up and running asap so I can start making art for open source games
and for my portfolio.
