With wget I've got no problem so far. Downloads fine.

Well, for your information: I've tried to convince the IT of my company
here to give me some proxy exceptions for the ubuntu update servers like
*.archive.ubuntu.com, etc. They responed that they can only configure
IPs as exceptions not domains. I have no further information which IPs
are routed through the proxy and which not. Stupid situation...

What i can say for sure is, that my system update tries until last month
were instabile, meaning some files are downloaded some not and the
download process is interupted often, though in the end, after some
retries, the download is completed  and the update afterwards goes
smooth. (Using kpackagekit most of the time, didn't use apt-get update
for something about 3 months or so...) My problem described in June 2011
was far more annoying, because nothing finished smooth... and i ended up
in infinite retries in kpackagekit and console often. Since i update
every 2 months with my mobile phone there seem to be some changes...

Okay, hope my thoughts about that help you somehow and they're not for
nothing... ;)

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: apt

  I am using Kubuntu 11.04 behind a http proxy. 
  KPackageKit fails without reason, so I tried it with apt-get.
  The result was, that apt-get tries to download packages, but the velocity breaks up and apt-get retries the download. This results in nearly indefinite retries.
  I made a Screenshot with 6491 retries for chromium-browser-l10n.

  It would be nice to get apt-get to more verbosity, but setting the
  option "APT::Periodic::Verbose "9";" does nothing.

  If someone could tell me some more verbosity options i would comment this bugreport with further information.
  As a little hint: "apt-get update" downloads some new information and fails for some other... maybe with the same reason the download of packages fails.
