On a commandline there is a /dev/sda and a /dev/sdb
The 10.04 installation installed it on /dev/sda en /dev/sdc (I use MD),
after an upgrade to 11.10 it changed to /dev/sda and /dev/sdb

Title:
11.10 Server sees only one SATA-disk on HP Compaq Elite 8000
Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I have problems with discovering a second harddisk on 11.10 Server.
With a lot of problem I have had Ubuntu installed on raid on with HD1
as sda, HD2 as SDC and the CDrom as SDB.
After an upgrade to 11.10 Ubuntu itself changed SDC (HD2) to SDB.
Now I'm trying to do a new installation of 11.10 Server and I only see
one Harddisk and two in the BIOS. If I switch port and set one of the
harddisks on SATA0 or 1 the disk is SDBA if I switch to SATA3 with the
other disk and CD rom in front (the BIOS requires this) the disk
becomes SDB in the installer.
I have no clue as I never had this.
I have tried all kind of combinations, also in the BIOS
(IDE/AHCI/RAID) with no solution.
It looks like if the Sata ports are shared in some way.
