Michael: Did you ever see this happening again?
I'm marking the bug incomplete as I'm failing to reproduce it and based
on Brian's comment we haven't seen anything like it on Launchpad. It
might have been a rare kernel issue or something weird going on but
nothing shows up in your syslog that'd help pin point the source.
** Changed in: user-setup (Ubuntu)

Title:
Encryped home directory selected but not encrypted
Status in “user-setup” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
When installing oneiric on a new netbook last week, I selected the
encrypted home directory option.
Just yesterday, I needed to boot in recovery mode and use a
root+network shell, and was surprised to see my home directory
unencrypted. Checking /var/log/installer/syslog shows:
Aug 20 01:42:18 ubuntu user-setup: WARNING: Commented out your unencrypted swap from /etc/fstab
Aug 20 01:42:18 ubuntu user-setup: INFO: Successfully setup encrypted swap!

Aug 20 01:42:19 ubuntu user-setup: ERROR: Cannot get ecryptfs version, ecryptfs kernel module not loaded?
Aug 20 01:42:19 ubuntu user-setup: adduser: `/usr/bin/ecryptfs-setup-private -b -u michael' returned error code 1. Exiting.
Aug 20 01:42:20 ubuntu user-setup: addgroup: The group `lpadmin' already exists as a system group. Exiting.
Aug 20 01:42:20 ubuntu user-setup: Adding group `sambashare' (GID 122) ...
ER: That either my home directory would be encrypted or I'd be notified that it wasn't possible at this time.
AR: My home directory is left unencrypted without notifying me (or maybe I missed it!?)
(NOTE: I used `ubuntu-bug ubiquity` before realising that user-setup
is probably the more appropriate pkg, so let me know if you need other
logs etc.)
