Ok - got that wrong.

However - on reboot it booted into the system that has grub installed in
sda.

Bug description:
  Installing 12.10 Xubuntu daily.

  Choose install to whole drive, picked sdc.

  Grub installed into sdb - on reboot newly installed system not
  booting. Grub from previous 12.04 in sda used.
