Title:
  the system became unstable after upgrading

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Upgrading from Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 to Karmic Koala 9.10.

  It was ok the firt time I boot, then "/home" partition was not found, so I couldn't boot.
  I had to reinstall all system (9.10), and had problems with it, and finally got the same problem ("/home" not found, not starting the system). The last problem occured when the system was trying to check the "/" partition (I separated "/" and "/home" partition, with "/" in sda5 and "/home" in sda7).
  I installed LTS version Hardy Heron 8.04 and that's ok for now.

  Error found for command "start x" when unable to start on 9.10 reinstalled:
     root = UUID = 55hfc6a6-9c18-4b60-8290-c3703dc8a73f ro quiet splash
     xorg-server 2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4
     (==) log file : /var/log/Xorg.O.log
     (==) Using config file : /etc/X11/xorg.conf
     X server shut down ddxSigGiveUp : Closing log
