Public bug reported:

Fresh install of 12.04

I create variables in my bash profile.

>From the commandline of any terminal emulator on the system, I start to
create commands that make use of a variable.

When I hit TAB to get an autocompletion, instead of getting a
completion, the variable on the line gets prefixed with an escape
character.

So, '$VAR' becomes '\$VAR'.

** Affects: bash (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
