Removing the file /etc/hostname makes dhclient accept the host-name
option. However, the desktop background turns blue and no desktop icons
can be seen. After 10 to 20 seconds the background image is restored and
the desktop icons are available again.
** Description changed:
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: isc-dhcp 4.1-ESV-R4-0ubuntu5
My dhcp-server is supposed to provide the host-name for the clients. I
am using the standard /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf which requests the host-
name (commentaries omitted):
option rfc3442-classless-static-routes code 121 = array of unsigned integer 8;
send host-name "<hostname>";
request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers,
- domain-name, domain-name-servers, domain-search, host-name,
- netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope, interface-mtu,
- rfc3442-classless-static-routes, ntp-servers,
- dhcp6.domain-search, dhcp6.fqdn,
- dhcp6.name-servers, dhcp6.sntp-servers;
+ domain-name, domain-name-servers, domain-search, host-name,
+ netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope, interface-mtu,
+ rfc3442-classless-static-routes, ntp-servers,
+ dhcp6.domain-search, dhcp6.fqdn,
+ dhcp6.name-servers, dhcp6.sntp-servers;
When reconnecting to the network the client requests the host-name and
the server answers correctly (tested with Wireshark). However, when
using the hostname command the client still issues the local host-name
given in /etc/hostname.

- Looks like Bug #537978 for dhcp3 again.
