Public bug reported:

Upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 caused one of my bash scripts to break due to the following bug:

Bash 4.2 patchlevel 24 in Ubuntu 12.04 is affected by the bug, looks
like it's fixed in patchlevel 27.

$ LANG=C apt-cache policy bash
bash:

  Version table:
 *** 4.2-2ubuntu2 0
