Right, but you're asking a distribution to modify a software package
developed by a third party. Requests like that should go to the
developer (http://www.vim.org).

Adding a filetype and associated syntax, plugins, etc. in your home .vim
directory are very common. There are solutions to make the process
easier as well as to tackle the problem of keeping those things updated
(see Pathogen, Vundle, others).

Title:
  needs actionscript syntax highlighting

Status in “vim” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Actionscript syntax highlighting has been available for a while from vim.org:
  http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1061

However, it's not included by default in the vim package. Instead,
*.as defaults to Atlas files. I'm not 100% confident, but I imagine
there are far more people editing actionscript code than are editing
Atlas code out there. I'm tired of having to edit
/usr/share/vim/vimcurrent/filetype.vim every time i install vim. Can
we change vim packaging so that it includes Actionscript and maps *.as
  to it?
