Public bug reported:

Expected to happen: sudo update-grub should add windows to the grub menu, using the menu option would boot into windows 7
What happened instead: sudo update-grub does not recognize windows

Windows 7 (as well as Ubuntu 12.04) is running on the same hard disk
with a GPT partition.

I was able to manually add windows using the following menuentries (both work, only one is needed) to
/etc/grub.d/40_custom

menuentry "Windows" {
search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root E20F-0E2C
chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
}

menuentry "Windows" {
insmod part_gpt
insmod fat
insmod search_fs_uuid
insmod chain
set root='(hd0,gpt3)'
search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root E20F-0E2C
chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
}
