Public bug reported:

I am experimenting with MythBuntu. It has always been a problematic
package but usually the issues come from the cantankerous nature of
MySQL. Everytime you upgrade to a new version of Ubuntu, you can expect
MythBuntu to curl up its toes and stop working so this problem with
samba is entirely new (and interesting!).

I have just installed from scratch the latest MythBuntu 12.04. When it
went to restart, it failed to reboot but seemed to hang. Holding the
power button down killed the machine and then I rebooted it. Having
rebooted MythBuntu asked if I wanted to install a range of upgrades,
some of which involved a new Linux kernel. On doing this, the upgrade
seemed to stall and so I left it and walked away. Some hours later I
returned to a perfectly normal screen. I tried to install the DVB
hardware driver and it was at this stage it indicated all was not well
at the farm. I restarted the machine and on restart was presented with
an apport screen. That's why I'm here now.

A constructive suggestion: The apport dialogue asks a number of
questions regarding the topology, ie, are you using a samba server. It
then asks about cifs. Not many Newbies know that cifs is the Microsoft
way of handling server message blocks over the network. It might be
better to put the questions into a more "newbie" friendly phraseology.
For example, "Are you connected to a server that looks like a Microsoft
Windows server?"

Hope what I have given you is helpful. (Oh and whether is spelt as so...
not weather... right now though it's raining! chuckle... thank you all
for your terrific efforts. They are very much appreciated.) Kevin
