Hi Magnus,
If I understand correctly, your system boots correctly after the problems in Grub - is that correct?

If that's right, or at least you can login, then please run:

    apport-collect 1014551

to add some log and detail to this report. Could you also please tell
us:

  1) How is the monitor connected - standard VGA leads ?
  2) Do you know the model of the video card you have?
  3) If you could also attach the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log from your running system that might tell us a bit more.

Dave

Title:
12.04 cannot detect my screen the way 11.10 could.

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My display is a Sony trinitron Multiscan 200sx. 17 inches display-diagonal.
I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 a while ago. 11.10 called my screen a Sony 17 inch and allowed me to choose a high resolution. Grub had no problem with my screen.12.04 call my screen a sony 16 inch and only allows me to have a resolution of 1280x1024. Grub cannot detect my screen at all. When i use grub, i am blind. I use the same screen for Microsoft xp and it works fine, so there is nothing wrong with my screen. So when will you make my screen work in 12.04 as well as it did in 11.10? This is really a bug-reprt, but i couldn't start the bugreporting application.
